Muscat, Oman, December 16, 2020: The President of the Oman Olympic Committee, Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, paid a fulsome tribute to Olympic Council of Asia President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, describing him as a “tremendous leader”.
In his closing address at the 39th OCA General Assembly in Muscat, Oman on Wednesday, December 16, the Oman NOC head praised the OCA President for his astute handling of the voting process for the 2030 Asian Games.
Sheikh Ahmad had called for approval from the General Assembly to award the 2034 Asian Games to the city which came in second in the vote between Doha, Qatar, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the 2030 Games.
Doha won the right to host the 2030 Games resulting in Riyadh being awarded the 2034 edition.
“It was an excellent outcome, a win-win situation for both countries,” said Sheikh Khalid. “It is a happy day for all sports fans in the region.
“The result of awarding Riyadh the 2034 Asian Games was an excellent outcome. We have to be thankful to the wise leadership and guidance of Sheikh Ahmad. It was tremendous leadership,” Sheikh Khalid added.
