Mongolia to host UN-backed youth green games

Bangkok, Thailand, November 4, 2019: Mongolia will host the first International Youth Green Games in 2020 under the auspices of UNESCO. Organisers are promoting the event on the sidelines of the OCA/Olympic Solidarity regional forum at the Arnoma Grand Hotel in Bangkok and are expecting to welcome 4,000 athletes for the games. The promo campaign is under way after the games were given the official approval of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. The other partners are the Government of Mongolia, the Mongolian National Commission for UNESCO and the National Olympic Committee of Mongolia. The games will be held in the capital Ulaanbaatar from September 13-19, 2020. Mongolia’s scheduled hosting of the Children of Asia International Sport Games has been scrapped. The International Youth Green Games are open to all 195 member countries of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Athletes will be aged up to 18 years. The sports programme is: archery, athletics, basketball 5x5 and 3x3, chess, climbing, cricket, e-sports, fencing, football, jujitsu, judo, kurash, sambo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball and wrestling. There will be other categories incorporated into the sports programme: Paralympic – athletics and basketball; Special Olympics – chess and fencing; Deaflympics – judo and volleyball.
