Doha, Qatar, November 8, 2019: The President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, has honored Team Qatar athletes who claimed 34 medals (nine gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze) at GCC Women's Games in Kuwait. The QOC First Vice President, HE Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani, the QOC Second Vice President, HE Dr. Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari, and the QOC Secretary General, HE Jassim Rashid Al Buenain, the President of the Qatar Women's Sports Committee, Lolwa Al Marri, and directors of QOC departments and staff attended the honoring ceremony. Sheikh Joaan congratulated the Qatari athletes on their outstanding performance, adding that the results achieved confirmed that the Qatari women fully deserved to represent Qatari sport in various international events. The QOC President added that these achievements also reflected the development of women's sport thanks to the support of the wise leadership and the efforts of the QWSC and sports federations. Sheikh Joaan affirmed the support of the QOC for women's sport as part of its plan to foster and develop all sectors and categories. Sheikh Joaan thanked the members of the administrative and technical teams and all the athletes for the great effort to raise the name of Qatar high in the GCC tournament. The QOC President urged the athletes to redouble their efforts in the coming months to further improve the level of Qatari women's sport and achieve more success in the forthcoming games, most notably the Olympic Games-Tokyo 2020.
