Mumbai, India, October 31, 2019: The International Olympic Committee Evaluation Commission led by Ng Ser Miang of Singapore visited Mumbai last week to assess the city’s candidature of the IOC Session in 2023.
IOC Executive Board member Ng met with an Indian Olympic Association delegation led by President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, Secretary General Rajeev Mehta and IOC Member Nita Ambani to assess India’s bid to host the 2023 IOC Session in Mumbai.
Batra had said earlier: “2022-2023 happens to be the 75th year of India’s independence and what better way for Indian sports to celebrate the occasion by having the entire Olympic community in India.”
Batra and Ambani submitted the formal bid to IOC President Thomas Bach on the sidelines of the 134th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland in June.
An IOC Session is the general meeting of the members of the IOC held once a year in which each member has one vote.
India had earlier hosted an IOC Session in 1983 in New Delhi.
